 Etmology of word Ayurveda

 

                आयुष: वेद आयुर्वेद:  अ.ह्र.सू 1:1 अरुणदत्त

 

 आयुष – means life

 वेद-means knowledge                                             

       Ayurveda means the knowledge and understanding of life Ayurveda is not only a medicine science, but it is a science of life

 

Definition of Ayurveda

 

            हिताहितं सुखं दुखमायूस्तस्य हिताहीतम

            मानं च तच्च यात्रोतमायूर्वेद: स उच्यते (च.सू 1/41)

        

हितायु-benificial

अहितायू -harmful

सुखायू -pleasurable

दुखायु-unpleasurable

 

ayurveda discribes all about four aspect which are related to human life

मान – आयुर्वेदा has also mentioned  about                quantitative aspect

a whole lifespan can be studied qualitatively and quantitatively with help of ayurveda

                 आयू इति जीवितकाला (च.सू. 1/42 चक्रपाणि)
